HOUSING UK

Day 2 Friday
Time: 10 AM

Host Jessica Carter
Panellists:
Jeremy Sweetland
Jessica Wilde
Nicola Harris

“Rebuilding Hope in Housing”

In the UK and across many other international cities there are three overlapping and complex challenges

– a housing crisis (affordability and quality of housing),
– a climate crisis (carbon and clean air agendas where we have solutions but they increase cost) and
– a construction skills shortage (recruitment shortages into traditional construction impacting on cost and supply).

In response to that challenge we are seeing an emerging industry develop for manufactured housing  off site housing).  That ‘new’ technology is not just a change in how houses are built but offers an opportunity for systemic change in how homes and communities are commissioned, funded and owned.

The Bristol Housing Festival was established to help incubate and support that emerging industry with an ambition to help set up healthy and trusting collaboration between the public sector and the private sector to enable the houses to be built that the city actually needs whilst encouraging the values of that emerging industry to be co-designed and co-owned.  In acting as a catalyst for change the hope and ambition is to help recreate trust been the public and their communities, the private sector and local government and to help change the narrative in housing by showcasing what can be done and seeding compassion, generosity and courage into the agenda.   We are at the start of that journey but are encouraged by the progress to date and the scale of opportunity to understand how kingdom values and wisdom are so critical in shaping shared vision and  purpose to release transformational change.
